Biologist

Directs program of natural resource management activities that involve sensitive and complex issues that may impact a wide variety of park issues. Represents the superintendent and chief of resource stewardship and education when working with others on natural resource matters. Develops and maintains liaisons and effective working relations with related groups and individuals, agencies, and the public in order to encourage and facilitate cooperative regional management strategies. Develops, prepares and coordinates the efforts of others in the preparation of resources management plans and specific action plans pertaining to the management and protection of natural resources. Develops and implements long range plans for the inventory, evaluation, documentation, preservation, research, and interpretation of the biological and other natural resources within the appropriate mission, objectives, and resources contexts. Identifies research needs, prepares requests for research proposals or statements of work, and provides oversight for research projects. Based on results of inventories, in-depth studies, and monitoring, the incumbent develops and conducts scientifically credible protection, mitigation, and restoration projects needed to prevent resource damage, to restore and/or maintain critical habitats, plant and animal communities, and managed landscapes, and to minimize human impacts. Prepares management and scientific reports regarding the results of protection, mitigation, inventory, monitoring, and research activities. Summarizes new and conventional information for use by scientists, managers, park staff, cooperators, and partners. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/11/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect either full-time or 40 hours per week. If a part-time work schedule is reflected, the hours must be annotated to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR BIOLOGIST GS-0401 SERIES:
Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. You must include transcripts. OR A combination of education and experience that included course work equivalent to a major (i.e., 24 semester hours) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to biology; PLUS appropriate experience or additional course work. The quality of the combination must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four-year course of study with a major as described above. You must include transcripts and you must include hours per week worked. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
planning, implementing and/or administering a natural resource program in the public lands environment; developing programs for the management of natural resources in a park or similar organization; designing, developing scientific monitoring protocols to identify, evaluate and monitor resources. Stabilization, protection, restoration and enhancement of natural resources. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a PhD or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited educational institution concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position, such as in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, have six months of the specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 (50 percent of the experience requirement) and 45 semester hours or 68 quarter hours of appropriate directly related graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement). The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
